This is a photo of me with my great, great grandfather.
He was known all over the world for his accomplishments in horticulture (study of plants and stuff). He developed the
first african violet hybrid and the family business boomed out of upstate NY. My mom took this photo a year before he
died. I was with him at the hospital an hour before he died. And when he died, it was news all over the world,
especially the plant world. Even the New York Times had his obituary in it. And this photo of me with my great
grampa was printed in many different newspapers too.
Once he named a plant the Daniela Kristine, after my mom.

My mom's uncle took over the family business. A couple
years ago he was invited to show the african violets on the Martha Stewart show because they are one of her most favorite
kinds of violets. Whenever there is a re-run of this episode with my great uncle on Martha's show, my uncle gets mad
orders for more violets. My great uncle gets orders from all over the world. He has been flown all over the world
by different people who happen to really love african violets...crazy!!!
